What type of sale shopper are you?

It’s the end of season sales. You’re heading out to the shops (or online at your desk) to bag a bargain. Will you hunt down the style of your dreams (at a cheaper price)? Or buy yet another garment that resides unworn in your wardrobe with the label on?

How you approach the sales is an indication of how much shopping success you’ll have. Take a look at these different shopping personalities and tips to have a successful shopping trip:

1. Wendy the wanderer

You wander into shops without a shopping list or plan. “I’m just browsing,” you tell the sales assistant then walk out with a cashmere jumper, a pair of loafers and a dented bank balance.

Top tip: Go shopping with a clear budget and only spend what you can afford.

2. Beatrice the bargain hunter

‘Wow!I’ve saved £100!’ you shriek and neglect to acknowledge that you’re spent hundreds more. You didn’t mean to end up with six tops, two handbags and a pair of sequin hot pants but well, it was 50% off!

Top tip: Ask yourself this before purchasing: Would I buy it full price?

3. Imogen the influenced

You follow ‘@impaidshedloadstopromoteproduct’ on social media. You spot (or said influencer happens to mention) that the dress she looked amazing in on her Mustique holiday is on sale. Before you get to the end of the caption the dress is in your basket and on its way to your home.

Top tip: Take a pause from social media before buying. Ensure garments work for YOUR personal style.

4. Lucy the loyalist

You receive the daily email, shop there often and bought the t-shirt or so the saying goes. You love this brand and know their sizing, quality, and how their pieces fit into your wardrobe so why shop anywhere else?

Top tip: Try a new brand that is up-a-notch during sale time. It’s a great way to upgrade your usual style at a similar price point.

5. Suzie the sniper

You’ve been stalking that silk dress since March. It’s on your wishlist, in your basket and on Google alert. You know the exact moment the sale starts and you’re ready, even if it’s the early hours of the morning. You’re in, out, and celebrating with a flat white before most people realise the discounts have started.

Top tip: Keep a wish list and set alerts. Works every time if you can be arsed!

The key to great sale shopping? Knowing your style, shopping with intention and asking yourself ‘When will I wear this?’ Don’t be afraid to return garments if they don’t feel great when you try them on. And remember: the best bargain isn’t the cheapest item — it’s the piece you’ll wear over and over, and always feel great in.
