Fans remember legendary Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox with flowers, kind words

Fans stopped by a statue of Cox outside Truist Park Saturday to pay their respects.

SMYRNA, Ga. — For hours Saturday, Atlanta Braves fans stopped by the statue of Bobby Cox outside Truist Park, many taking pictures, some even leaving flowers. Fans paid their respects after hearing the Hall of Fame manager died at the age of 84.

Though the Braves were out of town Saturday, the area was still packed with fans heading to the Savannah Bananas game.

Cox delivered years of dominance, including a 1995 World Series Championship.

“He was a winner. He was a winner. He changed the mentality of Atlanta Braves baseball. I really believe that,” said Braves fan Jim Nessmith.

On the day of his passing fans like the Buchanan sisters, who brought flowers and a note, came to say thank you.

“He shaped everything that they are today,” said Braves fan Mary Claire Buchanan.

While fans said they love the success he brought to the team, their favorite memories of Cox are not the wins.

“I like that he would fight for his team, if he didn’t like something he would stand up for his teammates, and he got thrown out many a times, I don’t know what that number was,” said Nessmith.

Cox was ejected 162 times during the regular season and postseason, an MLB record.

“He spoke for the teammates. You know, he argued with the umpires when he needed to argue, and, you know, he was there to represent the Braves, and to represent us basically,” said Braves fan Tristan Wiehe. “He was the man at the time, and it’s really sad that he’s gone.”

Fans felt the loss as the Cox era also marks a period in their lives.

“He was kind of like an iconic piece of the ’90s and my childhood,” said Braves fan Justin Gottlieb.

For Gottlieb, it was a childhood filled with Braves games on TBS, the “superstation” founded by another Atlanta legend and former Braves Owner Ted Turner, who died just three days ago.

“I like to joke and think that now that Ted’s up in heaven, he needs a team and he needs a new skipper, so maybe Bobby’s up there now,” said Gottlieb.

In their message on social media, the Atlanta Braves said while Cox’s love for baseball was unparalleled, it was only exceeded by his love for his family. He leaves behind his wife Pam, children and grandchildren.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
